Key finding: Identity leadership is not just about representing the group — the most effective leaders actively create, advance, and embed a shared sense of identity. Across two large international samples (N > 15,000), we identified distinct leadership profiles, showing that engaged identity leaders foster significantly more positive employee attitudes than moderate-inconsistent leaders.
